Grandma Broeska's Recipes

A few years ago, Auntie Linda lent me a small tin of Grandma Broeska's recipes to go through. Of course all the food memories came flooding back like sitting in Grandma and Grandpa's kitchen on Birchdale, eating things like apple crumble, cabbage rolls, vegetable barley soup, and vegetables fresh out of the garden.

I recently made cabbage rolls from a combination of Grandma's recipe book - a 1947 Cook Book published by the Altona Women's Institute - and some help from YouTube. At around the same time, Nora, Adeline, Sara and I had all recently finished reading a book called 'Lasagna Means I Love You' by Kate O'Shaughnessy; a story about a girl making connections with family through passed-down family recipes. Though I haven't found Grandma's original recipe for them, cabbage rolls felt like one of her recipes that said "I love you."

So I've started this blog for the family. I'll take pictures of Grandma's recipe cards and post them here to share. If you make one of the recipes, send me a picture and I'll add it to the recipe page.
